Our firm was selected to provide complete Architectural and Engineering Services for a 26,000 sq. ft. interior build-out to the existing fifth floor shell of the Courthouse. The portion of the existing courthouse was built in the 1970’s and the 5th floor was built, but not finished. Our scope of work included the design and implementation of a site utilization study and the addition of two full size court rooms, four judges’ chambers, conference rooms and various supporting spaces. One of the challenges that were needed to be worked out immediately was the circulation of the people. One example is that the prisoners have to be transported from jail, to the holding cells, to the courtroom and so forth without running into the jury, the judge, the public or the attorneys. But with careful planning these challenges were met with various design solutions that allow these projects to function seamlessly.
