One of the main requirements of the design of this facility included the blending into the scale and fabric of a residential neighborhood. This portion of the city was hampered by long delays in services to this community as a busy railroad line created a difficult crossing. This location was a good option, but it was residential in nature, therefore we minimized the commercial aspect of the building. We designed a facility that is functionally yet aesthetically pleasing while using material commonly used in the surrounding neighborhood. The living/dining and sleeping quarters were designed to provide a second home for the fire fighters as they work 24 hour shifts. The materials and equipment selected needed to meet some very stringent criteria that would enable the City of Ocala to maintain and use this facility for many years. The overall design incorporates drive thru bays that allow this facility to quickly respond.
