City of Ocala Fire Station No. 4

This facility was designed some time ago and has stood the test of time and it still looks aesthetically pleasing. This fire station was designed with materials commonly used in the surrounding community college, as the property was donated to the City of Ocala by the college.  The intent was to provide a common color and material palette that would enhance and blend with the campus.  The overall project includes living/dining and co-ed sleeping quarters that house between 12 to 15 fire-fighters and paramedics, and six pieces of fire-fighting equipment. The living quarters needed to provide a second home for the fire fighters as they work 24-hour shifts.  The real challenged was in the foundation design as the area was a known for its sinkholes, therefore we designed a concrete slab that was additionally reinforced with steel and concrete piers that are able to withstand a 10’ diameter void underneath.
